“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is still riding high in the North American box office, topping ticket sales for the fourth consecutive weekend in cinemas, but sharply down from last week’s performance.
The superhero film fronted by Tom Holland and real-life wife Zendaya brought in $39 million, down 45 percent on last weekend’s take. The latest Marvel blockbuster, which had the biggest debut weekend of all time at the domestic box office, has now brought in $854.9 million in the United States and Canada since its July 31 release and an additional $1.37 billion internationally according to industry watcher Exhibitor Relations. “The drop from number five’s opening in July 2023 is substantial but typical of these sequels.
The movie, starring Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers, follows the story of a young woman who can bring spirits into the mortal world but is herself haunted.
“This is a solid opening for the 6th episode of a horror series,” wrote David Gross in the FranchiseRe movie industry newsletter. At fourth, Paramount Pictures’ “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” took in $9.1 million, down 55 percent on last weekend’s opening.
