Trump's decision to become involved in the war contradicted: A practical reader guide

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has declared that the political dominance of US President Donald Trump, along with the influence of Fox News, may be coming to an end following a major Democratic victory in the midterm elections.

During his time at the network, Carlson frequently expressed support for Trump. However, Fox News announced in April 2023 that it was ending its association with the presenter.

Carlson accused the president of prioritising Israel’s interests over those of the United States, arguing that the Republican Party was now facing the consequences of that decision. “It’s also the end, by the way, of the Fox News era. Carlson also cautioned that the Republican setback did not mean the political situation had immediately changed. He pointed out that the newly elected members of Congress would not take office until January, leaving Trump with considerable authority over foreign policy in the meantime.

Carlson’s remarks also reflected his increasingly strained relationship with Fox News, where he hosted a prominent evening programme between 2016 and 2023.

“So we can say without hyperbole or gloating this is the end of the Trump era,” Carlson said on his podcast. Speaking on his podcast on Wednesday, the former Fox News presenter reflected on the election results, which saw Democrats regain control of both chambers of Congress after securing significant victories across several traditionally Republican-leaning states.

He argued that the war had alienated a section of Trump’s voter base, pointing to polling that indicated widespread public opposition to the conflict.

Trump’s decision to become involved in the war contradicted the expectations of voters who had supported his political agenda, according to Carlson.
