Independence Day 2026: Maintaining his long-standing tradition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15 inspected the guard of honour at the Red Fort to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day , sporting a striking turban.

Complementing the vibrant headwear, PM Modi wore an understated brown jacket over a crisp white kurta, accessorised with a tricolour pocket square. The Prime Minister’s attire for the landmark 80th Independence Day celebrations highlighted India’s indigenous textile heritage. For more than a decade now, PM Modi’s choice of Independence Day headgear has transcended fashion, serving as a symbolic nod to India’s diverse regional craftsmanship.
The tie-and-dye bandhani technique, rooted predominantly in Gujarat and Rajasthan, represents artisanal skill and by choosing an iconic textile art form for I-Day 2026, the Prime Minister continued to showcase Indian craftsmanship and champion the ‘Vocal for Local’ ethos on a global stage.
