Police on Monday have arrested two of the accused, a father-son duo, and are searching for the other two. THANE: A 65-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly physically assaulted and succumbed to his injuries by four men in Bhiwandi after he confronted a group for allegedly making obscene gestures and passing lewd comments at passersby.
Following his death, Bhiwandi City police identified the suspects with the help of CCTV footage and arrested Mohammad Momin and his father, Salim Momin. The other two accused, Hamza and Nabig, are on the run. Police have formed teams to trace them. We have formed teams to trace the absconding accused.
Police identified them as Mohammad Momin, 19, Hamza Momin, 20, and Nabig Momin, 30. The arrested father-son duo were produced before a court and remanded in police custody till August 27, Patil said.
Vinod Patil, senior police inspector, Bhiwandi City police, told HT ,“We have arrested two persons for manhandling the victim, which caused his death. The deceased, Jameer Momin, was driving his autorickshaw on Saturday through Samad Nagar when he noticed three men allegedly harassing passersby.
The victim was assaulted with punches and kicks. During the assault, Momin suffered serious internal injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
