Police arrested four men on Friday for robbing a Jan Seva Kendra operator of ₹ 4.18 lakh in Gosainganj. The accused, who allegedly went on a spending spree in Varanasi , were tracked down after one suspect posted social media videos featuring an iPhone purchased with the stolen cash.
Investigations revealed the robbery was pre-planned; Shubham Rawat, who knew Kumar routinely carried cash, allegedly coordinated with accomplices Arun Kumar, Shiva and Chanchal Yadav to execute the heist. The accused, Arun, Shiva, Chanchal and Shubham, have been sent to judicial custody . The incident occurred on August 6 while victim Rahul Kumar was riding home. Two men on a motorcycle intercepted him, struck him with a wooden stick and fled with his bag containing ₹ 4,18,330. Deputy commissioner of police (South) Mohammad Mushtaq stated that police examined footage from 200 CCTV cameras to trace the suspects’ movements. Police recovered ₹ 1.50 lakh in cash, the iPhone and the motorcycle used in the crime.
Authorities are currently investigating whether family members knowingly received stolen funds and are working to identify additional accomplices.
