Haryana Congress on Monday held protests across various districts demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a comprehensive review of all election-related decisions taken during his tenure.
Senior Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana affairs in-charge Sanjay Dutt, state party chief Rao Narender Singh, former Union minister Birender Singh, and MLAs and MPs took part in the protest. Congress workers burnt an effigy of Kumar at several places, while the party’s leaders held protest marches near the deputy commissioner’s offices. State Congress chief reiterated the party’s key demand — Kumar’s immediate resignation and arrest. He also referred to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations regarding electoral rolls and claimed that subsequent developments had strengthened the Congress’ concerns.
Responding to questions on the results of the 2024 Haryana assembly elections, Hooda said the Congress raised several questions before the commission regarding the election process but received no answers.
He alleged that the BJP had “stolen the public mandate” in Haryana with the help of the election commission and demanded the resignation of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
