The incident took place at the couple’s house in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area, police said on Wednesday, according to PTI news agency. A Delhi woman allegedly plotted the murder of her 55-year-old husband with her lover, allegedly promising the latter ₹ 50 lakh for the crime.
She had further removed some items in the house to support her claim, PTI reported citing Mittal. Nazia also initially tried to mislead investigators by claiming that burglars had killed her husband, and staging the spot with things strewn around. The cops then confronted Nazia with the evidence, following which she confessed to the crime.
Following this, her lover, 20-year-old Chaman, and his associate, 28-year-old Kishan, attacked Munna. When he fell asleep, the 55-year-old was strangled, electrocuted, and beaten with a stick to ensure he was dead. The body was found reported to have been lying in south Delhi on August 10 at 5.15 am. The accused wife had reportedly convinced Chaman to help her kill her husband, promising a sum of ₹ 5 lakh for the murder. She also gave him ₹ 20,000 right after the crime. However, upon checking the CCTV camera mounted outside the house, police saw that a masked male had entered the couple’s house at 1.45 am and left at about 3.15 am.
The accused, identified as 45-year-old Manju alias Nazia, allegedly mixed a sedative in water and gave it to her husband, Munna Lal, so that he loses consciousness.
The accused allegedly strangled Munna with a rope, gave him electric shocks, and hit him with a wooden stick, before dumping his body near the house, according to the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal said it was Chaman who allegedly gave Nazia the sleeping pills to administer to Munna Lal on the night of the murder. “Munna Lal was found dead at the spot, with several injury marks on his body,” PTI cited the DCP as saying at a press conference. The investigators also found other evidence pointed to a pre-planned murder, according to PTI.
‘Domestic disputes, physical assault, extra-marital affair’ led to murder
Following her confession, the police took Nazia into custody, along with the two others accused, and recovered ₹ 15,000 from them.
DCP Mittal said frequent domestic disputes, physical assault and humiliation faced by Nazia, and financial troubles had led to Nazia plotting the murder. Her affair with Chaman had also contributed to the disaffection with her husband, according to police.
