A 24-year-old woman from Mumbai was killed on Wednesday morning after her motorcycle was hit by an unidentified heavy vehicle in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district, police said. She was part of a 20-member biking group that was travelling to the Bastar region.
Police identified the victim as Riddhi Thakkar, a resident of Borivali (West) in Mumbai . She was riding a Bajaj Avenger as part of a touring group comprising motorcyclists from Maharashtra and other states who had gathered in Raipur before heading towards Bastar. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision.
The accident took place around 6 am at Markatola Ghat under Purur police station limits on National Highway 30, roughly 100 km from state capital Raipur. An unidentified heavy vehicle rammed into Thakkar’s motorcycle, leaving her critically injured, according to police officials. Efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and identify the driver, a police officer said.
