Liquor worth ₹45 lakh seized in Agra, two held

Police here seized 415 boxes of Punjab-made liquor worth around ₹45 lakh from a truck allegedly transporting the consignment illegally to Bihar, where prohibition is in force, and arrested two men in Agra, officials said on Tuesday.

Event Context

Acting on information about the illegal transportation, police from Trans Yamuna police station intercepted the truck near Jharna drain on the Agra-Firozabad road, DCP Agra City Syed Ali Abbas said.

The arrested men were identified as Daluram, the truck driver, and Naniga Ram, the cleaner. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Excise Act at Trans Yamuna police station.

Team Analysis

The liquor was allegedly concealed inside the truck to avoid detection. Police said the driver was paid ₹50,000 and the cleaner ₹20,000 for each trip to Bihar.

According to police, the liquor was allegedly procured from Punjab at cheaper rates and transported to Bihar for higher margins. The truck was owned by Vijay, a resident of Bahadurgarh, Haryana, while Deepak, who worked as a manager, allegedly coordinated the operation.
