Karnataka has increased fares across its state-run bus services by up to ₹ 9 in view of rising diesel prices, transport minister Byrathi Suresh said on Wednesday.
Suresh said KSRTC ‘s luxury fares, including Rajahamsa and AC buses, were set based on competitive market prices. Defending the hike, the minister said Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra had also increased bus fares. “Profit is not our motive; we hiked bus fares to save institutions like the KSRTC, BMTC,” he said.
Separately, the Tamil Nadu government recently notified a revised fare structure for contract carriage auto-rickshaws operating in Chennai and other parts of the state. The notification, dated October 27, directs the State Transport Authority and the respective Regional Transport Authorities to fix the revised fares in their jurisdictions. The order was issued under Section 67(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, according to the notification shared by news agency ANI .
