The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday (September 26, 2026) announced a slew of decisions regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls following a full-bench meeting.
This comes amid the ongoing row over reports of “illegal” decisions and dissent within the poll body .
The declaration attached to Form 6 would have to be filled out only during the SIR exercise, the ECI said, adding that the earlier format would be applicable otherwise for fresh voter registration. The claims and objections period for Maharashtra and Delhi has been extended till October 12 and October 30 respectively. The ECI also announced that a special committee, including an expert from IIT, will review access to the ECINet App — the unified digital platform for voter services and providing election-related information.
The Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will instead visit their houses and collect necessary documents.
Those electors who are “unmapped” or have been flagged for “logical discrepancy” will not be issued notices for hearings, the poll panel said.
