A 52-year-old veterinary doctor allegedly died by suicide in his apartment in Gorakhpur’s Rajendra Nagar on Thursday morning, six days after he lodged an FIR alleging that a woman and her associates had cheated him of ₹ 1.40 crore, police said.
The man was taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have taken the body into custody and initiated further legal proceedings. Police officers said they received information through PRV-112 around 9:40 am that a person had fallen from the apartment. The deceased had lodged an FIR at AIIMS police station on August 5, alleging a ₹ 1.40-crore fraud involving a woman holding a PhD, her father (a railway official), her husband and others.
Police said the woman and her father have already been arrested in connection with the alleged fraud case, while the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death are being investigated.
He lived with his wife, who is also a veterinary doctor, and their two children in Rajendra Nagar.
Gorakhnath’s Circle Officer Ravi Kumar Singh said the deceased was posted as a veterinary doctor in neighbouring Maharajganj district.
Singh said the circumstances surrounding the death of the veterinary doctor are being investigated and developments related to the alleged cheating case are also being examined as part of the probe.
