A Uttar Pradesh home guard was killed and a constable was injured on Wednesday after a SUV hit the police patrolling motorcycle on National Highway-9 ( NH-9 ), near Crossings Republik, police said on Thursday. The incident took place around 11.15pm.
Home guard killed as Thar hits police patrol bike
The bike was hit by a speeding and rashly driven Thar. An FIR was registered at the Crossings Republik police station. The car, travelling on the Ghaziabad -Meerut carriageway, collided with a tanker truck, injuring all six occupants.
“The police response vehicle (the motorcycle) was of Noida police , and they were headed to Gaur City 2 area via NH-9. Police rushed both injured to a hospital where the home guard, identified as Kapil Kumar, 40, died during treatment. The injured constable, Praveen Kumar, 36, is stable. The 34-year-old SUV driver was arrested and his vehicle seized,” said Priyashri Pal, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Wave City.
“One of the injured persons, sub-inspector Upendra Kumar, 59, died during treatment while the others are receiving treatment,” said Upasana Pandey, ACP , Kotwali, told HT. In another accident, around 5am on Thursday on the DME near Lal Kuan, involved a Maruti Swift carrying six people, including a police party.
