New Delhi, The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested three alleged shooters from the Tillu Tajpur-Kaushal Chaudhary-Gurvinder Baba gang and recovered two semi-automatic pistols and 11 live cartridges, averting suspected extortion attempts, an officer said on Friday.
Police identified the accused as Hemant alias Monu , Nayan Aggarwal and Durgesh Rai alias Devil , all residents of Delhi. Police recovered a semi-automatic pistol and eight live cartridges from Hemant and Aggarwal, and subsequently recovered another pistol and three cartridges. The duo allegedly collected the weapons from a field at a location shared by Gurvinder Baba and later delivered them to one of his contacts in Delhi. “They also went to two salons in Chandigarh in May for an extortion attempt but could not execute the plan. He is also an accused in an abduction and robbery case registered in Rajasthan.
The officer said the accused were arrested after more than 10 days of surveillance and developing human intelligence regarding active gang members operating in Delhi-NCR. Hemant and Aggarwal were apprehended near a district park in Paschim Vihar on August 2 following a tip-off, while Durgesh was arrested on August 8, the officer said.
Police said during interrogation, Hemant and Aggarwal disclosed that they had travelled to Zirakpur in Punjab in May on the directions of Gurvinder alias Baba, who is currently based in the US, to collect a consignment of arms and ammunition. They were allegedly preparing to target two salons again when they were arrested,” the officer said. Durgesh had earlier fired at a house in the fields of Karnal, Haryana, on Gurvinder Baba’s directions, according to police. Police said Durgesh used the nickname “Devil” and allegedly posted social media reels while brandishing weapons to create fear and project himself as a gangster.
