Nearly 35 years after a bomb blast rocked the Jammu railway station, killing three people and injuring 18, the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday arrested an accused terrorist who had been absconding.
“In the last two years, the Jammu GRP launched a manhunt and identified the accused Altaf Hussain Sheikh. During the investigation, an accused Aman Ullah Khan was arrested while three other accused had managed to escape and could not be arrested at that time. An FIR number 07/1991 under Section 307, 302, 120(B) RPC, 3/4 TADA, 4/5 ESA was registered at Jammu GRP police station.
“The accused, who initially went underground and then lived with a concealed identity for several decades, has been arrested after a 35-year chase,” said an official spokesperson. They were declared absconders by a court of law, officials said. They verified his identity by checking his residential details, discovering he lived under a fake identity as a successful businessman in Bijbehara,” said the spokesperson.
The accused was produced before the TADA court for further legal proceedings, the official added.
