Addressing a press conference, senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil claimed that FIIs had withdrawn ₹4.03 lakh crore from Indian markets between January and September this year, and accused the BJP -led government of “wrecking” the economy. “With foreign investors offloading around ₹29,000 crore in the three trading sessions of September 29, 30 and October 1, this is a major concern,” Mr. Gohil said. He said foreign portfolio ownership in National Stock Exchange-listed companies had declined to about 15.8%, a 17-year low, and alleged that it was a result of the government’s “failed” economic policies and its emphasis on “crony capitalism”.
