Commuting by CNG-run black and yellow cabs and auto rickshaws will be costlier for people in Mumbai from September 1 with the transport authority on Wednesday revising its fares, officials said.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority has approved a fare hike of ₹ 2 for black-and-yellow taxis and ₹ 1 for auto-rickshaws plying in the metropolitan region, an official of the Regional Transport Office said. After the revision, passengers will have to pay ₹ 33 instead of the existing ₹ 31 for the first 1.5 km in a taxi, while the minimum fare for an auto-rickshaw will increase to ₹ 27 from ₹ 26, he said. The authority has given taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers time until the end of November from September 1, to get their meters recalibrated.
Those failing to do so will face penalties, the official said.
The Maharashtra government is currently conducting Marathi proficiency checks on the drivers of autorickshaws and cabs.
