Applegate received her initial multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021 and has subsequently demonstrated considerable transparency regarding her medical circumstances through various public forums, including interviews, digital platforms, and her podcast program. “You don’t get misdiagnosed and then all of the sudden I’m better. I haven’t gotten better … If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways,” she stated. “So I’m back at square one, that I don’t know what’s going on with me. The actress mentioned feeling like she’d let everyone down after becoming such a visible advocate for people living with MS. In collaboration with Sigler, she established MeSsy as a platform to examine their respective journeys managing this condition, facilitating substantive dialogues concerning the physiological and psychological hardships inherent to their respective diagnoses.
“It’s hard to say that [my doctor] came into my room and she said, ‘Congratulations, you don’t have MS.’” The actor further revealed that she was not happy about the news.
