The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Director-level official of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) and two others, including an advocate, in an alleged corruption case.

After verification of the complaint and registration of the First Information Report, the CBI laid a trap. The three accused were arrested after the advocate allegedly received ₹20 lakh from the complainant as part payment of the demanded bribe of ₹1 crore, for and on behalf of the SFIO official, the agency said.

The accused persons have been identified as Harish Kumar Tanwar, an investigating officer posted with the SFIO office in Chennai; advocate Bharat Sharma; and his relative, Aryan Sharma. Mr Tanwar is an Indian Revenue Service official (Income Tax) of 2007 batch.

The CBI registered the allegations that the accused official and others had demanded ₹1 crore from the complainant for favouring him in an investigation being conducted by the SFIO related to “DHFL scam”.
