Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday dismissed demands from Tamil Nadu politicians for a CBI inquiry into the death of three suspected poachers in Chamarajanagar on August 15.
His remarks follow a ‘call attention’ motion moved in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, where the members demanded a high-level probe into the firing incident involving the Karnataka forest department. Following the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay strongly condemned the alleged brutal killing and sought a fair investigation by a high-level committee into the heinous incident. Palaniswami urged the Tamil Nadu government to pursue a CBI investigation into the matter to uncover the truth, noting that the location of the incident sits on the border of two states.
The forest personnel conducting an anti-poaching operation came under fire from the group, following which the personnel allegedly returned fire in self-defence, resulting in three deaths, according to officials in Karnataka.
