The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday held a protest here against chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged vote theft and lashed out at the BJP-led Centre for detaining protesters ahead of the proposed demonstration by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Addressing a gathering here, Sisodia slammed the BJP-led Union government for allegedly detaining youths who came to Delhi to protest against the CEC, seeking his resignation. “Youths were being detained. “Jantar Mantar is a spot where any Indian can peacefully express discontent. Delhi Police’s behaviour was improper. We were taken around the city for more than three hours in a vehicle meant for heinous criminals and kept in detention at the Mundka police station. As an NDA constituent, farmers traditionally form the party’s core vote bank. “This is not the time to look into narrow political interests. “(YouTuber) Dhruv Rathee is our child. If they target him, we will not hold back.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia along with Punjab cabinet minister Harpal Singh Cheema were among those detained by the police for protesting in Sector 17 in front of the Election Commission’s office. Describing the protests as a watershed moment in India’s history, the farmer leader said the country had won democracy after more than 700 years of struggle.
“Such a situation was not even seen during the Emergency,” he said while taking on the Centre over deploying heavy police force in the national capital and detaining youths. “The Centre is scared that if protesters manage to reach Jantar Mantar, then like Dharmendra Pradhan, Gyanesh Kumar would also have to quit,” he said. Sisodia said the AAP completely supports the CJP’s protest call at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. “We also demand that Kumar resign,” he said. When youths were coming to Delhi for protest, the BJP was depriving them of exercising their democratic right,” said Cheema. Police said that the situation remained mostly peaceful and as of now they haven’t registered any FIR in this case. “It was surprising that the government was conducting the SIR process itself and also staging a protest against it,” said Dhillon, pointing out that CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had repeatedly assured the public that no legitimate voter’s name would be deleted from the electoral rolls in Punjab. Some of our members have been held in Dwarka,” he said. Earlier reporting noted: The senior farmer leader, a special invitee on the Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Central Parliamentary Board, said he would raise the issue in the right forum. I admire [Union Minister] Chirag Paswan for taking a stand in support of young protesters,” he told The Hindu . Singh, also the general secretary of the All India Jat Mahasabha, said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise didn’t affect one group and that the farmers strongly support the young protesters. If the police have weapons, we are known to use our agricultural tools as weapons in times of adversity,” he said. “We will not let it go easily.”
