A 34-year-old man suspected to have killed two boys over the weekend to be able to marry their mother was found dead in a well in Chhatarpur district’s Luvkush Nagar on Monday, police said.

When they did not return, their mother filed a missing complaint. During its investigation, police came across CCTV footage that showed the man taking the boys with him on a bike. He had been missing since Sunday after the bodies of the two children, aged 9 and 11, were found in another well in Pahadtare ka Purva village.

Because they recognised the suspect, who was a frequent visitor to their home to meet their mother, police said the children went along willingly.

Police said the man, who is suspected to have abducted the two boys, was suspected to have died by suicide. When the two children were found dead in a well, the mother told the police that he wanted to live with her and considered the children obstacles. Police said he was identified by a tattoo on his arm. Police said investigators were probing the circumstances around his death.

Jujharnagar police station in-charge Rajkumar Yadav said the two boys had gone to school on Friday. On Monday morning, villagers in Kunwarpur found the man’s body in the well.
