A 19-year-old man was detained after he surrendered at the Camp police station in Palwal and allegedly killed a 52-year-old man whom he accused of murdering his mother in 2023, police said.

Police have not established the allegation against the victim independently. The incident took place on Saturday in Jawahar Nagar Camp, where the 52-year-old man was sitting outside his house when the accused arrived with several others, police said. The victim was allegedly murdered in retaliation for the death of the accused’s mother in 2023. During questioning, the 19-year-old allegedly told police that the victim had killed his mother following an argument over the construction of a speed breaker in their locality, officers said. Based on the wife’s complaint, police registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the 19-year-old accused and six others at the Camp police station.

Police said he was being questioned, while teams were conducting raids to arrest six others named in the case. An argument broke out between the two over the longstanding dispute, following which the accused allegedly fired two bullets at the man and stabbed him multiple times, an investigator said. The accused walked into the police station late on Saturday, placed a country-made pistol and three live cartridges on an officer’s table and told police that he had avenged his mother’s murder, according to police.

However, the victim’s wife gave a different account of what happened after the attack. She further alleged that her husband was alive when police reached the spot and that, despite her requests, he was not immediately taken to hospital.

The victim’s family called the police and took him to Civil Hospital in Faridabad, where doctors declared him dead, authorities said. She told police that the attackers also attempted to throw her and her grandchildren from the terrace, according to an officer. She said the family eventually took him to the hospital in an e-rickshaw. The victim had been out on bail for around five months to take care of his wife, who has been unwell for a long time, his family members said.
