Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday (August 13, 2026) attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly avoiding the Opposition in Parliament for 20 days, while Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi described the BJP-RSS as a “bunch of jokers”.

Referring to the student protests at Jantar Mantar, he said the students wanted to express themselves, while the government wanted to impose “order” and prevent them from doing so. He said the Opposition’s fight against the government would continue without hatred or violence. Gandhi said, describing the struggle as one rooted in “love, brotherhood and ahimsa”. Kharge said Parliament was not a platform for the Prime Minister’s publicity but a forum where different viewpoints should be heard, debated and answered within democratic norms.
