A nine‑year‑old girl was allegedly raped in front of her brother while the two were returning from school in Bhind district on Tuesday, police said.

The girl lost consciousness after the incident. The children’s mother later reported the matter to police. He also thrashed the brother of the victim. “The accused Valmiki stopped the siblings on their way home and offered to drop them on his motorcycle. He first took them towards fields near a canal but, upon spotting herders, diverted them to a spot behind the school. There, he allegedly raped the girl. Her brother managed to reach home and informed the family, who rushed her to hospital. Following medical examination of the survivor, a case was registered against Valmiki under charges of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act . Police teams are conducting raids to arrest him.
