New Delhi, Artists deserve dignity and respect, singer Mika Singh said on Thursday, reiterating that Uttarakhand cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal must apologise to his brother Daler Mehndi for publicly reprimanding him at an event.

“I wish you would fulfill those responsibilities with the same seriousness that you use to question an artist. Veteran artists like Daler Mehndi ji deserve respect, not humiliation,” he added. “Hon’ble @pushkardhami CM of Uttarakhand, please look into this matter.

The 59-year-old singer, known for hits such as “Tunak Tunak Tun”, “Bolo Ta Ra” and “Ho Jayegi Balle Balle”, was heard saying “sorry” in video clips that have since gone viral. In a fresh post, the singer said the minister should be grateful to Mehndi for agreeing to perform at the event after another artist, Sunanda Sharma, fell ill. “According to my information, Sunanda Sharma had initially been booked for this program, but she fell ill with fever. After that, just one day before the event, Daler Mehndi ji was called in, and despite not being well, he performed at the program,” Mika said. He said it was painful to see Mehndi being accused of being drunk while performing on stage. In a subsequent post, Mika said the whole world has come forward to support Mehndi but nobody has defended Uniyal. We love Uttarakhand and its people, but artists deserve dignity and respect,” he said.
