Donald Trump said in a brief statement on Sunday (October 11, 2026) that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure.
“The ceasefire announcement was news for me. But if Russians agree to an energy ceasefire Ukraine will agree.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the Axios digital news outlet on Sunday (October 11, 2026) that he was surprised by U.S. counterpart Donald Trump’s announcement of a Ukraine-Russia “energy ceasefire,” but he would accept it whenever it begins. If president Trump negotiated it with Putin — please tell us when the ceasefire begins — we are ready and we will accept it,” Zelenskyy said, according to Axios reporter Barak Ravid.
Earlier Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated his country would be ready to stop hitting Russian oil refineries if Russia curbed its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
