New Delhi, The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is set to begin disbursing assistance for uniforms and school bags to its students from this week, with about ₹ 70 crore to be transferred in the first phase to the accounts of around 5.1 lakh children, officials said on Monday.
“Each student will receive ₹ 1,370 for uniform and school bags, taking the amount earmarked for the first phase to around ₹ 69.87 crore. “Under the earlier system, students were entitled to ₹ 1,670 annually through direct benefit transfer ₹ 1,250 for uniform, ₹ 120 for a school bag and ₹ 300 for stationery. The cash component has now been fixed at ₹ 1,370 for uniform and school bags, with stationery to be supplied separately,” another senior official said.
Efforts are underway to open bank accounts for children whose parents do not have existing accounts, while account details that are inactive or require updating are also being addressed,” an official said.
