The Election Commission on Saturday announced its decision to extend the deadline of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral roll in Delhi. It also declared that those who have been sent a notice by the poll body over discrepancies will not have to appear for a hearing at the ERO office.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar chaired the key meeting of the Election Commission amid demands for his resignation. The poll body addressed concerns over deletion of names from the voter list in Delhi. Here are the key announcements made by the Election Commission: – Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of people who have been served a notice for being unmapped and logical discrepancies. The officers will collect the documents of the voter and upload them on the ECINet. Following which, a decision will be taken by the ERO on the eligibility of the voter. They need not be called for hearing to ERO/AERO office, except in certain circumstances. – A hearing will be held, preferably online, in exceptional cases, as decided by the ERO. Any adult member of the family can be authorised by the elector to attend the hearing on their behalf, if required.
Facilities for the online hearing to be strengthened,” it said. – District Election Officers (DEOs) will create adequate number of help desks/hold special camps for the people living in night shelters, labour, poor people, homeless etc. as per requirement.
