The Chhattisgarh government has declared a holiday for schools across the State on Saturday (September 26, 2026) as heavy rains battered parts of the State, inundating several areas and cutting off villages.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, in a post on ‘X’ on Friday (September 25, 2026), announced closure of all government, private and aided schools, stating that the safety of students is the top priority. Incessant heavy rains pounded several parts of the State on Friday (September 25, 2026), inundating low-lying areas, swelling rivers and cutting off remote settlements in the Bastar region. – PTI A deep depression lashed Odisha with heavy rain on Friday (September 25, 2026), with at least 63 places recording over 100 mm of rainfall and three over 300 mm, forcing authorities to close schools in some districts as rivers swelled, landslides occurred, big trees got uprooted, more areas waterlogged and houses damaged. Around 14,500 people living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas in the southern and western regions of the coastal state have been shifted to 2,061 relief centres where cooked food is being served, while pregnant women were shifted to hospitals, a Minister said. The deep depression that made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast a day ago entered Odisha, causing heavy to very heavy rain in 24 hours until 8.30 a.m. on Friday (September 25, 2026). Tentulikhunti in Nabarangpur district was the wettest at 395 mm rainfall, followed by Nandahandi at 344 mm, and Boriguma in Koraput district at 307.8 mm rainfall. The calamity hit 10 districts, including Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Rayagada in south Odisha, and Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Bolangir in the western region, paralysing normal life, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said – PTI

Sai said heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, rising water levels in rivers and streams and transportation difficulties in several areas, and the decision was taken to ensure that children don’t face any risk. He also instructed district collectors to conduct relief and rescue operations with full vigilance in view of flooding and waterlogging caused by continuous rainfall, including in the Bastar division which comprises seven districts, another statement said.
An ‘orange’ alert has been issued for five other districts — Dehradun, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Almora — while a ‘yellow’ alert is in place for the remaining three districts: Haridwar, Uttarkashi, and Tehri. For Sunday, a ‘red’ alert has been issued for four districts — Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar; an ‘orange’ alert for four others — Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Nainital, and Rudraprayag; and a ‘yellow’ alert for the remaining five districts — Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh. The meteorological department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in many places and extremely heavy rainfall in some areas during this period. – PTI Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness intense rainfall activity over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday (September 25, 2026), issuing a ‘red alert’ for several districts, while warning of heavy to very heavy rain at several places, and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The weather system, caused after a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the southern Odisha coast and moved northwest, is likely to remain intense for the next 12 hours before gradually weakening into a well-marked low-pressure area during the subsequent 12 hours, according to the weather bulletin.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain in parts of Delhi today (September 26, 2026) as the city woke up to cloudy skies. One or two spells of very light to light rain at most places is expected, with moderate rain at few places during morning to forenoon, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds of speed 30-40kmph; even gusting to 50 kmph might occur,” an IMD official said, adding that another spell of rain is possible between afternoon and evening hours. – PTI The IMD has issued ‘red’ and ‘orange’ rain alerts for several Uttarakhand districts for September 26 and 27 and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to remain on high alert. The State government has put the district administrations on alert in view of the forecast till September 27. The system is expected to enhance rainfall activity across Uttar Pradesh, with heavy to very heavy rain likely in eastern Uttar Pradesh on September 25 and 26 and in western Uttar Pradesh on September 26. Strong surface winds are also likely to accompany the rain, with speeds of 30-40 kmph and gusts reaching around 50 kmph, while gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph, are possible at isolated places.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain across Delhi, with a yellow alert in place for the day. “Generally cloudy sky is expected to persist. He appealed to residents and tourists to exercise extreme caution and urged people to travel only if essential and after checking the latest weather and road conditions. People have been advised not to venture outside unnecessarily during lightning and excessive rainfall, avoid bathing in rivers and water bodies, and exercise caution. The weather department has warned that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods in some watersheds of the State. Rain and thundershowers are expected at many places in western Uttar Pradesh and most places in eastern Uttar Pradesh. – PTI
