Just days after renewed debate over artificial intelligence (AI) safety, a lawsuit filed in the US on Friday alleged that top AI firms violated antitrust laws by agreeing to coordinate and slow the pace of their development.
Following this, SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Google DeepMind’s co-founder and chair Demis Hassabis each publicly showed support for the proposals. Lawyers representing the plaintiffs, who pay for subscriptions to Gemini, Grok, ChatGPT or Claude, are bringing the lawsuit on behalf of a proposed nationwide class of other paid subscribers. – According to the report, the lawsuit argued that the AI companies violated antitrust laws when they agreed to coordinate slowdown efforts. – The lawsuit further argued that the coordination largely took place on September 12, Saturday, when Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO, published an essay urging for cooperation on decelerating advancements.
The lawsuit claimed that OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceXAI and Google made an illegal deal to slow the efforts, according to a report by AP.
