Chennai, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday urged the Tamil Nadu government to immediately scrap its notifications to acquire additional lands for a new SIPCOT industrial complex and the expansion of NLC mines in Cuddalore district, warning of mass agitations if the decision is not reversed.
Instead, the government is moving to forcibly acquire them. In a press statement, Anbumani strongly condemned the state government’s latest notification to acquire 164.20 acres of land in Thiyagavalli and Kudikadu villages. The former union minister highlighted that while 75 per cent of the newly notified 164 acres were previously purchased at low rates by two private corporations, local farmers and residents have long demanded the return of these lands. Demanding an immediate rollback of the land acquisition notices totaling over 1,277 acres for both SIPCOT and NLC projects, Anbumani warned that the Pattali Makkal Katchi would mobilize affected residents and launch widespread protests across the district if the government fails to comply.
“This is not development for Cuddalore, it is an environmental and social disaster,” he said.
