Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) met several secretaries in batches. Ahead of a possible organisational reshuffle of All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretaries, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi , general secretary (organisation) K.C.
These interactions have come in the form of interviews, where secretaries, after a brief interaction, are assessed on their performance, contribution to the organisation, and future plans. Gandhi asked the secretaries about the problems they faced in the States they were handling, and whether they were receiving the support required to work effectively. The meetings, which lasted about half-an-hour for each batch, focussed on the nature of work being undertaken by the secretaries, their roles and responsibilities, and the time they were spending in the States assigned to them. A recurring concern raised by some secretaries was the absence of clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Several of them felt that they had little say in the functioning of the organisation in the States, and were often dependent on State in-charges for assignments. The discussions also touched upon the need for greater responsibility for the secretaries, and a system through which their feedback could be formally taken into account. The emphasis was also on their physical presence in the States, with the leadership seeking to know how many days they had spent there and what work they had undertaken.
He urged them to spend at least 15 days in their respective States.

One secretary described the meeting as a routine organisational exercise, saying such interactions were held from time to time to assess the work of those in the system, and identify areas for further strengthening of the party organisation.
The secretaries are also expected to be assessed in the context of the Congress’s organisational programmes, including the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan.
