The monsoon is set to remain active across large parts of India on Sunday, September 6, with the India Meteorological Department ( IMD) forecasting heavy rain at isolated places in several states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh , Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Several areas are also likely to see thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

The weather system will also keep the eastern and northeastern regions on alert, with heavy showers likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, the weather agency said.

The wider region is likely to remain wet, with fairly widespread rainfall expected over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Rain will not be the only weather concern, as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely across several parts of the country. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Madhya Pradesh.

East Rajasthan, too, is likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall on Sunday.
