Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the government’s objective was to establish a transparent recruitment system in government services in which merit would receive the highest priority. He described the revised selection process for Group B officers of the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) as an important step in that direction.
He urged the newly selected officers to discharge their responsibilities with technical expertise, sensitivity and honesty, stressing that the board’s work was directly linked to the state’s environment and the health of its people. Adityanath also asked the officers to take their training seriously and familiarise themselves with field-level challenges and the functioning of the department. In accordance with the chief minister’s directions, a one-month training programme has been prescribed for the officers. As part of the training, a one-week programme is being conducted at IIM-Lucknow.
He made the remarks while interacting with 40 newly selected Group B officers of the UPPCB, including 26 assistant environmental engineers and 14 assistant scientific officers, after completion of their recruitment process. The recruitment was the first under the revised selection system introduced through amendments to the UP Pollution Control Board’s 1995 regulations. Under the new system, the written examination carries 85% weightage and the interview 15%. IIT-Kanpur conducted the written examination for 40 posts on April 27, while four interview panels headed by retired high court judges conducted the interviews. The final result was declared on July 8. Of the selected officers, 21 are IIT graduates and eight are women.
“The recruitment, conducted after a long interval, will strengthen the board’s efficiency and give fresh momentum to work related to environmental protection,” the chief minister said.
Earlier, Group B officers were primarily selected through interviews.
