The only exception is Gerlach K-12 School. All Washoe County School District (WCSD) schools will be canceled Monday, August 24, due to the Hawk Fire in Reno , school district officials announced, per News4.
The closure also includes St. Albert the Great Catholic Community, Mater Academy of Northern Nevada, St. Johns Children’s Center, Truckee Meadows Community College, Coral Academy of Science Reno, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School and Pinecrest Academy of Northern Nevada. The university has reportedly established emergency response and evacuation plans in place, in case conditions change.
The university remains safe and is not located within an evacuation zone or a “Get Ready” (Yellow) evacuation zone, according to school officials. University of Nevada, Reno is going to continue regular campus operations on Monday after an assessment of the Hawk Fire and current smoke conditions in the area.
Once again, upon the recommendation of public safety officials, all schools with the exception of Gerlach K-12 School are canceled on Monday, August 24,” WCSD wrote in a message sent to families on Sunday, August 23. “As a result of the Hawk Fire and at the request of public safety officials, all classes, events, and activities at all WCSD schools – except Gerlach K-12 School – will be canceled on Monday, August 24. The decision to close schools is due to evacuations, impacts on regional public safety resources, and to help keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.
