The management committee of a madrasa in Muzaffarnagar’s Phulat village began demolishing a portion of its construction on Sunday after authorities found that the institution had encroached upon 1,200 square metres of gram sabha land.
The notice warned if the encroachment was not removed voluntarily, administration would take action to demolish the illegal construction. In an order dated May 22, 2026, the court held that construction over 1,200 square metres of land in Phulat village amounted to illegal encroachment. The court ordered the eviction of the madrasa operator from the disputed land and also directed him to pay ₹ 30,000 as compensation and ₹ 5,000 as execution fees. On August 17, the ADM (judicial) rejected the madrasa’s appeal filed by the operator of Madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimia.
The dispute had earlier been heard in the court of the tehsildar (judicial), Khatauli, in a case titled Gram Sabha versus Madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimia. The madrasa management subsequently challenged the order before the court of the additional district magistrate (judicial).
