The Prayagraj police on Sunday attached properties worth around ₹ 15 crore, including a hotel situated on the Kanpur-Varanasi Highway in Nawabganj area, allegedly owned by gangster Mohd Nabbe alias Naeem alias Najme Alam, under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986.
A public notice has also been displayed at the site informing residents about the attachment and warning against any encroachment or interference with the property. Officials maintained that the objective of such action is to dismantle the financial infrastructure of criminal networks and prevent accused persons from benefiting from assets allegedly generated through unlawful means. The action was taken under Section 14 (1) of the Gangsters Act pursuant to an order issued by the court of the police commissioner, Prayagraj Commissionerate.
Najme Alam hails from Mubarakpur under Nawabganj police station limits, according to police officials. Authorities said the assets were acquired using proceeds generated through organised criminal activities. Police officials said the accused amassed wealth through a criminal network involved in vehicle theft, tampering with engine and chassis numbers, changing registration plates and selling stolen vehicles with forged documents. ACP (Soraon) Shyamjit Pramila Singh said the public notification was intended to prevent illegal occupation and ensure that the attached property remains protected under government custody. Police said the attachment forms part of an ongoing drive against organised crime and properties allegedly acquired through illegal activities.
