Overnight rainfall exposed the claims of civic agencies that water would no longer accumulate on Gurugram’s roads, with several stretches remaining waterlogged even 12 hours after the rain stopped, locals said, highlighting persistent drainage issues and raising questions over desilting claims.
The IMD has issued no weather alerts for Gurugram for the coming days. Gurugram recorded 75 mm of rainfall till 8 am on Saturday, according to the district administration. Kadipur and Harsaru recorded the highest rainfall at 83 mm each, followed by Wazirabad at 69 mm, Badshahpur at 62 mm and Sohna at 55 mm. Meanwhile, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Gurgaon NorthCap University monitoring station logged 13.5mm till 8.30am on Saturday. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram had desilted 475.85 km of stormwater drains from April till end of July, while at least 71 km remained pending, despite missing deadlines between May and July, according to data accessed by HT. The minimum temperature was 25°C and the maximum 34.7°C on Saturday.
Gurugram recorded an average air quality index (AQI) of 67 on Saturday, compared with 133 on Friday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s daily national bulletin data at 4pm, marking its first “satisfactory” day since August 16.
