Water supply in several parts of Gurugram is likely to be affected after a Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) water supply pipeline near Baani Square was damaged during unidentified excavation work, the authority said in an advisory issued on Saturday.
Affected areas include sectors 46, 48, 49, 50, 52, 56, 57 and 58 to 76. The incident was reported near Baani Square, a commercial complex in Sector 50. Garima Yadav, a resident of Sector 48, questioned why authorities or police did not intervene during the excavation.
The damage has disrupted water supply to multiple sectors, with GMDA advising residents to use water judiciously until repairs are completed. The authority has not specified the duration of the disruption or a timeline for repairs. “What were the authorities doing when the excavation was taking place? Why did GMDA or any police official not intervene? GMDA urged residents in the affected sectors to conserve water and use available supplies only for essential requirements while cooperating during the repair work.
GMDA officials said repair work would be taken up and residents should make arrangements accordingly and avoid unnecessary consumption of water during the disruption. The disruption is likely to affect households as well as other establishments dependent on GMDA’s bulk water supply network, officials said. The authority said further updates on restoration would be shared as repair work progresses. It is always upon the residents to bear the brunt of negligence,” she said.
