Banks across India will remain closed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as it is the fourth Saturday of the month. Under Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules, banks remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays, though digital banking and ATM services will continue to be available.
The holiday is in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s ( RBI ) rules under which banks remain closed on the fourth Saturday of every month.
August 22 is the fourth Saturday of the month, which makes it a scheduled bank holiday under the RBI’s banking holiday rules. Customers planning to complete bank-related work in person will have to wait one more day, as Sunday, August 23, is also a bank holiday. Customers, therefore, do not necessarily have to wait for bank branches to reopen to conduct routine transactions.
The second and fourth Saturdays are observed as holidays for bank branches. customers can continue to use digital and self-service banking facilities for routine transactions While bank branches are closed. UPI and other digital payment services can be used for payments, while ATM s can be used for cash withdrawals and other available services.
Customers planning to visit a bank branch today for banking activities will have to wait until the next working day.
