Ghaziabad:A 71-year-old woman was injured after an unidentified man snatched her gold chain and pushed her to the ground during a morning walk near her house in Raj Nagar District Centre on Friday, police said.

The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The footage showed the man wearing a helmet and pulling the chain before fleeing. “We have some input about the suspect based on electronic surveillance.

The incident took place behind the Ghaziabad District Court and around 100 metres from the Ghaziabad Police Commissionerate headquarters. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified suspect under BNS section 309(6) (voluntarily causing hurt during the commission of, or an attempt to commit, robbery) at Kavi Nagar police station.

Singh said the suspect had parked his motorcycle some distance away and fled after the incident. “She suffered a fracture to her finger and shoulder and sustained injuries on her face and legs,” he said. Police said the suspect could not be identified as his face was covered. Teams have been formed to trace him,” said ACP (Kavi Nagar) Siddharth Gautam.

The victim, Rajbala Devi, was approached by a man wearing a helmet and a mask around 7am. He first asked her if he could put up a banner on the roadside.
