LUCKNOW Uttar Pradesh and Japan will deepen cooperation in semiconductors, advanced technology, skill development, employment and tourism, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said after meeting Japanese Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, here on Friday.
The Japanese side informed that during Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to India in July 2026, semiconductors were identified as one of five priority areas for Japan-India economic security cooperation. A Japanese industry team is also scheduled to visit Semicon India and HCL Technologies in mid-September.
They said a team of industry representatives will visit UP to explore opportunities in the semiconductor sector. Adityanath said Japan’s technological expertise combined with UP’s industrial capabilities can create strong collaboration in this critical sector.
The proposals included setting up skill development centres aligned with Japanese standards, and preparing youth for jobs in manufacturing, agriculture and nursing care in Japan. An employment fair in Agra in March for Japan’s agriculture sector and an MoU between Amity University and Ibaraki Prefecture were cited as examples. The state plans to showcase its Buddhist, cultural and heritage tourism destinations.
Japan also sought Uttar Pradesh’s participation in ‘Tourism Expo Japan 2026’ in September, which the chief minister approved.
Skill development was another key focus, with discussions on setting up centres to train UP youth according to the requirements of Japanese industries.
