Television actor Antara Banerjee has been arrested after allegedly stripping and attacking Railway Protection Force ( RPF ) personnel with a razor blade aboard the Aravali Express on August 12 after a dispute over her unreserved status. The incident took place while she was travelling to Surat for a shoot and allegedly entered a reserved AC Coach while having only a sleeper-class ticket.
Antara is a model and actor who has worked across the entertainment industry. She enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programme at Nirmala Niketan College. However, she reportedly left her studies halfway to pursue her career in acting. Just two years later, she made her Bollywood debut with the movie The Shaukeens, in which she had a small cameo. The film flopped at the box office and received negative reviews. Antara then went on to make her space in the television industry, featuring in shows like Savdhaan India, Badho Bahu and Laal Ishq. She was also a part of Ektaa Kapoor ‘s Kasautii Zindagii Kay wherein she essayed the role of Suman Shekhar Sharma. She shared the screen with Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes. Mahashivratri and Divya Drishti. Both the supernatural shows had received much love from the audience. Antara had been a part of a music video, the T-Series song Chaap Tilak. Sung by Lakhwinder Wadali, composed by Aar Bee with traditional lyrics. Most recently, the actor featured in a micro-drama, The Last Shot, which is available to watch on Rocket Reels. Apart from acting, she is also a trained Kathak dancer and boasts a following of 528K on Instagram. “Banerjee was occupying a reserved seat and refused to vacate it for the rightful ticket holder. She was taken into custody by the Borivali railway police the following morning. She reportedly refused to contact relatives or legal counsel and demanded to be arrested.
The 31-year-old actor was born in a Bengali family in Kolkata, and later moved to Mumbai with her parents in 2013 to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Antara made her debut in acting with the television show Gumrah: End of Innocence in 2012. She left the show in 2019 and went on to feature in two other hit shows, Kavach… She was also a part of Ektaa Kapoor’s Ragini MMS Returns season 2. The song was released in 2024. The incident took place on August 12 on board the Aravali Express, according to the police.
In his complaint, RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Yaminikant Mishra said an altercation broke out between Banerjee and the ticket collector after she was found sitting in the wrong seat. When Mishra went to help her vacate the seat, instead of complying, she started abusing the RPF team,” said a GRP official, seeking anonymity. Borivali GRP inspector Kunda Gavade said witnesses suggested Antara may have been distressed after failing to get an AC coach ticket. She calmed down after the FIR was registered, according to Inspectro Kunda.
