Panaji, The ₹ 650-crore Porvorim flyover will be inaugurated on September 10 by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Goa Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan A Khaunte said on Saturday.
Khaunte made the announcement while addressing the Independence Day programme at the Government Complex Building at Mapusa in North Goa, where he hoisted the national flag. “The inclusive development of the country and Goa is the firm resolve of our double-engine government. The minister also noted that Goa currently had 815 startups, 382 of them founded by women. Since the launch of the Startup Policy in 2018, more than ₹ 4.5 crore had been distributed through grants, while financial assistance had also been provided under the IT Policy launched in 2021, he said.
The flyover, which is nearing completion, will decongest the Mapusa-Panaji route while improving connectivity, he said, describing it as a significant infrastructure project for the state. The government is taking steps to expand tourism beyond Goa’s beaches by promoting homestays, eco and hinterland tourism as well as spiritual, heritage, adventure, culinary, wellness and yoga tourism, he said. The government was also working to attract Global Capability Centres to Goa and make the state an IT knowledge hub, he said.
