Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said her government was working to create a development model for the national capital that other states will seek to emulate, focusing on speedy decision-making, timely project completion, and ensuring government benefits reach people.
Highlighting initiatives for women, Gupta said the Delhi government issued more than 1.8 million pink cards to women to facilitate free travel on buses. Around 75 acres of land had already been reclaimed as part of efforts to tackle legacy waste and improve the city’s environment, she said.
Addressing the Delhi government’s Independence Day function at Chhatrasal Stadium, Gupta said decisions taken in Delhi could direct the entire country and asserted that the government was committed to setting new benchmarks in development and governance. “The only religion of our government is public service, the sole objective is the all-round development of Delhi, and the only resolve is to make the life of every citizen of Delhi better,” she said. “Our development model will set new benchmarks across the country,” she said, reiterating the government’s resolve to make Delhi a leading example of governance and development. CM Gupta said the government focused on speedy decision-making, timely completion of schemes and ensuring that the benefits of welfare and development programmes reached people without delay. On transport and clean mobility, she said Delhi was emerging as an “EV city”, with 4,500 electric buses and supporting infrastructure. She said the initiative could serve as a model for other cities seeking to promote cleaner public transport. Gupta also said the government was working to eliminate Delhi’s garbage mountains.
