India celebrates its Independence Day annually on August 15, marking the historic day in 1947 when the nation gained freedom after roughly 200 years of British rule. The occasion is commemorated with immense fervor and joy across the country, in government offices, educational institutions, private organisations, residential societies, and homes alike.
The national ceremony takes place at the historic Red Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister hoists the national tricolour. Following the ceremony, the PM delivers an address to the nation .
The national flag shall be made of handspun and handwoven or machine-made cotton, polyester, wool, silk, khadi bunting, according to the information available on PIB. Members of the public, private organisations and educational institutions may hoist and display the national flag on all days and occasions, provided its dignity and honour are maintained, according to the PIB.
