Patiala police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person in connection with the pitbull attack that left a couple seriously injured in the Ghuman Nagar area of the city on Tuesday evening. The case has been registered under Sections 291 (negligent conduct with respect to an animal), 125-A (endangering human life), and 125-B (causing grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police have mentioned the house number and locality where the dog was kept and have initiated an investigation to identify the owner. “We have recorded the statements of the victims and registered the FIR. The accused will be identified and named during the investigation.
We are verifying the house number and other details and will soon identify and book the owner,” said deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jangsher Singh Randhawa. Meanwhile, the Patiala municipal corporation said it will intensify pet dog registration and step up vigilance over keeping of ferocious breeds as pets. Municipal corporation commissioner Pooja Grewal said the civic body had already served a notice on the owner of the Pitbull involved in the incident and appropriate action would be taken as per rules. She said the corporation’s health wing had been carrying out the pet dog registration regularly, but following the incident, officials would be more vigilant and ensure that the process was implemented more effectively.
