The BJP on Sunday (November 8, 2026) celebrated the 99th birthday of party veteran and former deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani with a puja and havan at its headquarters here, while several leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauded his contributions to Indian politics.
The event, coinciding with Deepavali, was organised to commemorate Mr.
Advani’s life, dedication to the nation, organisational contributions and long public career, the BJP said.
Several party leaders, including Mr. Advani’s daughter Pratibha Advani and BJP president Nitin Nabin, attended the event. In an authored article, Mr. Mr. Advani and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee set a remarkable example of cooperation and together changed the course of Indian politics. Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Mr.
Modi said two qualities that set the BJP patriarch apart were his ideological clarity and intellectual sharpness, besides his ability to expose what he described as the pseudo-secularism propounded by a large section of the Indian polity. Modi also said Mr. “Your integrity in public life and unwavering commitment to the organisation will always be a source of inspiration for all BJP workers,” Mr. Nabin said. Advani as “a symbol of service to the nation, an architect of the BJP and a principled statesman”. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Advani had set new standards of integrity, dedication and leadership throughout his public life.
