The Delhi Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with Friday night’s major fire in a shoe factory in Mangolpuri Industrial Area of Delhi that claimed four people and left two others seriously injured, said at least two senior police officers aware of the development.
The caller informed the fire control room that the fire was in a garment factory. The firefighters carried out firefighting and search-and-rescue operations. Police personnel also joined them in the search and rescue.
The blaze was brought under control around 1am on Saturday, with 16 fire tenders used, fire department officials said. Deputy commissioner of police (outer) Vikram Singh confirmed that the first information report (FIR) has been registered for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant sections. Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and police officials said their control rooms received information around 9.30pm on Friday about the fire in a factory in Mangolpuri Industrial Area Phase-1. A total of 16 fire tenders were rushed to the scene.
The officials said that the Mangolpuri police station has registered a case and is probing the exact cause of the fire.
“We have registered a case and are probing the exact sequence of events leading to the fire to fix responsibility and accordingly take legal action,” he said.
